France extends summer sales after heat keeps shoppers away, minister says
Trade Minister Serge Papin announces the extension of the summer sales of one week. They were originally scheduled to end on July 21, but the date was postponed to July 28 due to the heat. Traders noted a decrease in attendance due to the high heats and could again be pushed back if another heat wave hit the country.
This one-week extension of the period of balances had already been announced by Matignon on Saturday, but the date had not yet been fixed.
In case of a new heat wave by July 28, Serge Papin has not been closed to a further extension of the balances.
