Government appoints Astrid Asi Estonia's next prosecutor general
The government appointed Astrid Asi, the current head of Harju County Court, as the country's chief prosecutor on Thursday, following a proposal by Justice and Digital Affairs Minister Liisa-Ly Pakosta. Asi will assume leadership of the Prosecutor's Office on April 2.
Once upon a time, the Estonian state brought judge Astrid Asi to update the judiciary in Ida-Virumaa and made her the head of the court there. I spoke with Astrid Asi at a dinner hosted by President Kersti Kaljulaid and Postimehe in Narva. The critical remarks that had accumulated over the years about the administration of justice needed to be conveyed to the presiding judge, but the response was only a fleeting grin on his face.
