Walz Signs Executive Order as Minnesota Diesel Prices Remain Above $6
The order lets producers move more crops per trip and adds temporary fuel-transport relief as diesel prices top $6.50 a gallon, according to AAA.
On Friday, Governor Tim Walz signed Executive Order 26-11, allowing vehicles hauling agricultural and timber products to exceed regular weight limits by up to 10% on state and local highways during harvest season.
Diesel prices have surged above $6.50 per gallon nationally, adding pressure on farmers where roughly 90% of farm fuel goes toward planting, caring for, and harvesting crops like corn and soybeans.
The relief applies to transport from harvest sites to the first unloading point on state and local highways, remaining effective until October 30, 2026, though it excludes interstate highways and maintains existing safety requirements.
Minnesota joins governors in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, and Texas who have issued similar weight-relief orders, allowing haulers to move more products per trip and conserve fuel during harvest.
Walz stated, "We are standing with the farmers, loggers, truckers, and families who feed our communities, power our economy, and keep Minnesota moving," signaling the state's commitment to agricultural relief.
