Republicans held narrow advantages in several redrawn districts as mail ballots remained outstanding and Democrats tried to close gaps in California.
Republican candidates maintained razor-thin margins across California's redrawn congressional districts as of Wednesday, according to The Center Square. Several Republican incumbents held clear leads despite redistricting efforts.
Passage of Proposition 50 redrew district lines and moved incumbents, yet Republican-led districts showed resilience. Despite intent to pick up Democratic seats, Democrats risk being shut out of general election races.
In District 40, incumbent Rep. Ken Calvert led with 36.2%, while Republican Young Kim held 21.6%. Mitch Clemmons advanced in District 41 with 40.8%, trailing Rep. Linda Sanchez at 35.8%.
David Valadao maintained a Central Valley lead with 44.5%, while Progressive Democratic candidate Randy Villegas held 29.8% against physician Jasmeet Bains at 25.7%. Incumbent Rep. Derek Tran led District 45 with 49.7%.
Ballots postmarked on or before Election Day have one more week to arrive since many Californians vote by mail. This ongoing counting process means final results in several close races remain undetermined.
