Gemini Robotics 2 Gives Google’s Robots Full-Body Intelligence

The model family adds planning, on-device operation and multi-robot collaboration, and Google says it can help humanoid robots walk, crouch and manipulate objects.

  • On July 30, 2026, Google DeepMind introduced Gemini Robotics 2, an AI model family enabling whole-body humanoid control. The system allows robots to coordinate complex movements across legs, torso, arms and hands for dexterous manipulation and multi-robot collaboration.
  • Gemini Robotics ER 2 and Gemini Robotics On-Device 2 serve as intelligence layers, enabling robots to understand visual instructions and plan multi-step tasks in real-world spaces. This represents a shift toward physical AI agents that operate beyond controlled lab environments.
  • Separately, Behzad Peykari, Chief Innovation Officer at Human in Motion Robotics, developed XoMotion, a self-balancing exoskeleton using reinforcement learning. The system trains on grass, sand and uneven ground, allowing individuals with mobility impairments to stand and walk independently.
  • Already cleared for sale in Canada with installations in rehabilitation centers, Peykari's team pursues U.S. FDA clearance. "It is a humanoid system that can walk on its own," Peykari says, positioning the technology as a wheelchair replacement.
  • While Google's research targets industrial logistics and manufacturing applications, Peykari's work demonstrates robotics' potential to restore personal autonomy. These parallel advances signal rapid evolution in physical AI systems designed to safely operate alongside humans daily.
