Google Meet rolls out on Apple CarPlay and leaves Android Auto drivers behind

Google Meet is now available on Apple CarPlay, allowing drivers to join audio-only meetings with a single tap while maintaining focus on the road.
Upon connection, the phone automatically switches to an 'On-the-Go' mode, transferring meeting audio to car speakers while disabling video and the pre-call screen to minimize distraction.
Collaboration tools like Chat, Hand Raise, Polls, and Q&A are unavailable during CarPlay sessions; available controls are strictly limited to muting, unmuting, and leaving meetings.
Additionally, OpenAI recently rolled out ChatGPT Voice support in CarPlay, enabling drivers to interact with the AI while driving. The feature requires iOS 26.4 and updated software.
Safety warnings from OpenAI specify that ChatGPT cannot access vehicle information, live location, or control car functions. Drivers should rely on hands-free features and avoid device interaction while in motion.
