Google Issues Emergency Update For All Chrome Users—Attacks Underway
The zero-day vulnerability in Chrome's V8 engine allows attackers to corrupt memory or execute code; this is the sixth such exploit patched in 2025, Google said.
- Tuesday, Google pushed emergency security updates to Chrome's stable channel after TAG flagged CVE-2025-10585 earlier this month.
- The Google Threat Analysis Group discovered a type confusion issue in Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine, reported earlier on March 20, 2025, and fixed in the September 16, 2025 update.
- Google warned a public exploit exists in Chrome, patched four high-severity bugs including one reported by Kaspersky, in its emergency update.
- Users should update Chrome immediately to 140.0.7339.185/.186 for Windows/macOS and 140.0.7339.185 for Linux, restarting to apply fixes and manually upgrading if automatic updates are off; Chrome market share of almost 70% heightens exposure.
- Google said it will restrict bug details until most users are updated, citing attacks targeting organizations in Russia and restrictions on third-party libraries.
