Goal-scoring midfielder Weir joins OL Lyonnes from Real Madrid
The Scotland captain adds 63 goals for Madrid and becomes the first Scottish player to represent the French champions.
On Tuesday, OL Lyonnes signed midfielder Caroline Weir from Real Madrid on a three-year contract. The 30-year-old moves after a successful four-year stint in Spain.
Weir previously spent nine years playing in England, including stints at Arsenal, Bristol City, Liverpool, and Manchester City. She arrives after netting 63 goals during her time at Real Madrid.
As Scotland's captain, Weir recently led her national team to top their World Cup qualifying group. She scored a hat trick against Israel and four goals against Belgium in June.
OL Lyonnes expects Weir to bolster their midfield with her experience at the highest level. The club stated, "The club is delighted with this new signing, who will bolster Lyon's midfield with her clinical finishing and top-level experience."
Weir becomes the first Scottish player to represent OL Lyonnes, signing a deal running until June 2029. Her arrival comes as the club seeks to rebound after losing this year's Champions League final to Barcelona.
OL Lyonnes holds his new offensive recruit in the person of Caroline Weir. L'Écossaise, captain of his selection, arrives from Real Madrid. She is linked to the Rhône club until 2029.
OL Lyonnes continues her ambitious mercato with the arrival of the Scottish offensive midfielder Caroline Weir. Coming from Real Madrid, the captain of the Scottish selection committed herself for three seasons, until June 2029.
