Security forces seized 6.5 tons of cocaine on Portugal's west coast. The drugs were allegedly smuggled from the sea through beaches near the towns of Figueira da Foz, Odemira, and Sines.

Operation Atalaia resulted from the dismantling of a criminal network allegedly preparing to introduce narcotics into the country and into the European market

GNR operation began at dawn on Figueira da Foz beach and ended with cocaine, weapons, cars and a boat seized.

Two weapons of war-caliber fire were still seized.
