General Motors will maintain the diesel engine to maximize fuel efficiency in launching a new generation of trucks, diverging from the hybrid offers of the rivals. GM plans to launch in the fourth quarter the first major reformulation since 2019 of two of its most important vehicles: Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Together, they are the world's best-selling models by the Detroit assembler and respond for most of the company's profits.
While diesel engines are prominent in the redesign of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, Ford and Stellantis are turning to hybrid solutions. GM is aiming for a highway range of over 900 miles with an optional large fuel tank.
