Global Affairs tight-lipped on fate of Canadian men being held in Iraq
Global Affairs Canada will not confirm if Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand discussed Canadian detainees in Iraq with her Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein during a recent call.
The federal government is continuing to assess developments related to Canadian citizens detained in Iraq, according to spokesperson Aditee Kissoon.
No additional information is being disclosed due to privacy and operational security reasons, said Kissoon.
Foreign nationals held by Kurdish forces in Syria, including Canadians, were moved to Iraqi detention centers earlier this year.
Global Affairs Canada refuses to clarify whether Foreign Minister Anita Anand addressed the issue of the repatriation of Canadians imprisoned in Iraq during her recent interview with her Iraqi counterpart.
