In Gabon, Friday, July 17th, marks five months to the day since the High Authority for Communication (HAC) decided to temporarily suspend social media in the country. The objective: to combat hate speech and protect children. While a law regulating social media has been passed by Parliament but has not yet been promulgated, the February 17th decision appears to be becoming permanent, much to the dismay of citizens interviewed in Libreville.
