Girl’s phone stopped being used in the hours before she was reported missing
Phone records showed Melina Frattolin’s apps were opened thousands of times in the week before her death, prosecutors said.
- On Thursday, New York State Police analyst David Hungerford testified that nine-year-old Melina Frattolin's phone went silent hours before she was reported missing, with data showing last activity at about 5:30 p.m.
- Evidence of Melina's routine phone use included a selfie video sent at about 4:30 p.m. where she appeared smiling and playing with her hair, contrasting sharply with the sudden digital blackout.
- Kali Galanis repeatedly attempted to reach her daughter throughout the evening, texting "Appelle moi" just before 9 p.m., while Luciano Frattolin reported his daughter missing at about 10 p.m.
- Searches for "Melina" and "Wildlife viewing hut" appeared on Luciano Frattolin's phone after he allegedly left the area where her body was found, though defence lawyer Brian Pilatzke questioned whether the child could have conducted the searches.
- Luciano Frattolin has been held without bail since his arrest in July 2025 after pleading not guilty to second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse in his daughter's death.
