Girl, 14, Charged with Three Counts of Attempted Murder After School Stabbing
Two pupils and a teacher were injured, and counter-terror officers are leading the investigation as police say the case is not a terrorist incident.
A 14-year-old girl was charged Thursday with three counts of attempted murder following a knife attack at Co-op Academy in Blackley, Manchester, on Tuesday; police also charged her with two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises.
Two 14-year-old pupils and a 27-year-old male staff member sustained injuries during the incident, which prompted an immediate school lockdown at approximately 08:30 BST. All three victims have since been released from hospital with no serious injuries.
Counter Terrorism Policing North West is leading the investigation, though authorities have not declared the event a terrorist incident. The suspect, previously detained under the Mental Health Act, was released to police custody following assessment by health professionals.
Detective Chief Superintendent Jonathan Chadwick, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North West, described the charges as "extremely serious," adding that officials are supporting victims and the wider school community. The suspect will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday.
Chief Inspector Jon Shilvock urged the public to avoid speculation on social media, noting the significant impact on witnesses and those involved in the incident. Support is available through the Samaritans at 116 123 or in the USA by calling 988.
