The number of asylum seekers in Europe has decreased significantly since the beginning of this year, according to a report by the Welt am Sonntag newspaper, which refers to data from the European Union, Deutsche Welle reports today.
Germany now ranks third among destination countries.
The number of applications for asylum in the European Union, Norway and Switzerland decreased by almost a quarter in the nine months of 2026; a total of 452,969 applications were received during this period, 24.3 per cent less than the year before, reporting from Welt am Sonntag with reference to data not yet published by the European Agency for Asylum (EUAA).
