The European Copernicus service has been activated for the areas of Crete affected by the bad weather that hit the island in recent days. Following the order of the Secretary General of Civil Protection, the Emergency Planning Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, as the National Contact Point, activated the Copernicus/Emergency Management Service – Mapping (activation code EMSR933) of the European Union.
Copernicus is recruited to record the areas affected by the bad weather
At the same time, the European Copernicus service was activated for Crete in order to contribute to the recording and mapping of the affected areas.
The European Copernicus service is proceeding with satellite mapping of the areas of Crete that have been affected by the long-lasting bad weather. The Greek request was accepted and the first cartographic data for the assessment of the consequences are expected immediately.
The Copernicus Service Has Been Activated for the Flooding Phenomena in the Affected Areas of Crete.
The Service's data and maps will be made available immediately by the Emergency Response Planning Directorate of the General Directorate of Disaster Management to all involved bodies free of charge for the management of their project.
