The length of traffic jams in the Free State adds up to 145 622 kilometres for the past year – an increase of almost 1000 kilometres compared to 2024. And a turnaround is not in sight. This year it could even get worse.
Patience was especially needed on German highways in 2025. According to the ADAC (German Automobile Club), people spent more time stuck in traffic jams than in the previous year – a total of 478,000 hours. Roads in North Rhine-Westphalia were particularly affected.
According to ADAC, traffic jams on German motorways have dissolved more slowly last year, but their overall length was roughly similar to a year earlier.
There is hardly anything left on Hessen's motorways in 2025. The ADAC counts more traffic jams, longer distances – and relaxation is not in sight.
Last year, traffic jams in Germany were not only longer than in the same period last year, they also disintegrated more slowly. This was measured by the ADAC. Thus, North Rhine-Westphalia hit particularly hard.
