Georgia Early Voting Sets Record with More than 188K Voters
Nearly 200,000 Georgians had voted by the second day as officials added a handwritten check-in step to improve ballot records.
On Tuesday, Georgia began early voting for the midterm election with record turnout, as more than 188,600 voters cast ballots in person on the first day.
The first-day total represents a 40 percent increase from the 134,962 ballots cast in 2022, surpassing the 70,849 voters recorded during the 2018 midterm election.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger attributed the surge to voter confidence in election integrity, saying, "This record-breaking turnout proves that voters have confidence in the integrity of our elections."
Officials accepted 10,267 absentee ballots out of more than 130,000 issued, while voters encountered a new check-in step requiring handwritten names on numbered lists for accurate record-keeping.
Early voting continues in Georgia through Oct. 30, with Election Day scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voters can find polling locations through the Secretary of State's Voter Page.
In the state of Georgia, the early vote for the mid-term elections began on Tuesday, an opportunity for some voters to voice their dissatisfaction with the US President's foreign policy.
