Georgia Smith and her 1984 metallic blue Mercedes Benz remain missing 27 years later
Family members have raised a $10,000 reward as searches with sonar and helicopters have found no trace of Smith or her Mercedes.
On June 30, 1999, Georgia Smith, 76, vanished while driving her blue 1984 Mercedes Benz from Champlin, Minnesota, to her cabin in Minong, Wisconsin, for the Fourth of July weekend.
Minnesota State Trooper helicopters traced the 135-mile route between the two cities, while The Washburn County Sheriff searched nearby parks and roadside areas for any trace of Smith.
Adventures with Purpose, a nonprofit dive team, explored waterways including the Croix River using advanced sonar technology, finding no evidence of Smith or her vehicle along the route.
Digital billboard campaigns in the Twin Cities have offered $5,000 for information on Smith or her Mercedes Benz, with Champlin Police Department Investigative Sergeant Jeffrey Martin confirming no new updates since the campaign launched.
The Police Department reviews the case periodically with fresh eyes, as Champlin Police Chief Glen Schneider maintains that a cold case is not forgotten. Anyone with information can contact the department.
