State House Candidate Arrested on Public Indecency, Child Molestation Charges
Police say a Flock camera search helped identify Stafford, who is running for Georgia House 42 against incumbent Rep. Gabriel Sanchez.
On Thursday, police in Smyrna, Georgia, arrested Andre Lamar Stafford, a Republican candidate for Georgia House District 42, on felony charges of child molestation and public indecency.
Authorities allege that on October 15, Stafford approached a girl walking to a bus stop in his gray Kia Forte, exposed himself, and made inappropriate comments before driving away.
Investigators used Flock surveillance technology to track the vehicle's license plate to Stafford; the victim identified him in a photo lineup conducted by Smyrna Police.
Congressman Mike Collins, whose campaign Stafford volunteered for, stated, "If they're true, then he belongs on a list and behind bars," as the election approaches on Nov. 3.
Despite a magistrate judge denying bond, Stafford remains in the race, telling reporters, "I have no reason to drop out, I am innocent," regarding the pending charges.
