Gas prices expected to be lower on Thanksgiving, GasBuddy says
GasBuddy forecasts a $3.02 average gas price on Thanksgiving, consistent with last year, as 28 states report prices under $3 a gallon amid higher refinery output and easing demand.
- This Thanksgiving, GasBuddy projects the Thanksgiving Day average will be $3.02 a gallon, holding near last year's levels and among the lowest since 2021.
- Refineries returning from fall maintenance have boosted fuel supply, while crude oil has dropped about 17% since June to roughly $63 per barrel, easing price pressures.
- Out West, pump prices in California are $4.59, Washington $4.18, and Oregon $3.81, according to GasBuddy on Nov. 25.
- AAA projects 81.8 million people will travel at least 50 miles this Thanksgiving, nearly 90% by car, while GasBuddy finds 74% of drivers say fuel costs do not affect their plans.
- Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy analyst, expects prices to drop between Thanksgiving and Christmas, while the American Automobile Association says car rentals are about 15% cheaper this Thanksgiving than in 2024.
