Gary Lineker axed from another BBC show just 7 months after MOTD exit
Gary Lineker was removed from BBC Children in Need festive specials filmed in Finnish Lapland, seven months after leaving Match of the Day following a social media controversy.
- Last March, ex-footballer and well-known pundit Gary Lineker filmed an appearance for Lord Alan Sugar's Children in Need Celebrity Apprentice festive specials but was later axed from these, seven months after exiting Match of the Day.
- BBC bosses said Lineker was cut from the festive special due to time limits, and his Match of the Day exit followed a social-media post featuring a rat image for which he apologised.
- For the first time in the spin-off's history, a star-studded cast including Olivia Colman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Robbie Williams, Piers Morgan, and Rylan Clark will travel to Finnish Lapland, with Baroness Karren Brady assisting Lord Alan Sugar.
- The Standard has contacted Lineker’s representatives and the BBC for comment after Lineker, who had been set to sell gingerbread biscuits for the charity, was removed from the special.
- Lineker will not present the BBC's 2026 World Cup coverage or next season's FA Cup coverage, and he is `really looking forward to working with ITV`.
