Monfils to Captain France at Davis Cup
- Gaël Monfils has been appointed captain of the French Davis Cup team, succeeding Paul-Henri Mathieu in the non-playing role. He will lead France's campaign during qualifying rounds scheduled for February.
- Following his quiet retirement in October, Monfils was honored with a ceremony in Paris earlier this week alongside fellow fan favorites Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gilles Simon, Richard Gasquet, and Benoit Paire.
- FFT President Gilles Moretton said the federation is "very happy to welcome Gaël as head coach of the French team." Monfils pledged to "build a real collective project" to advance French tennis ambitions.
- Assisting Monfils in his new role are compatriots Gilles Simon and Richard Gasquet, providing support during the team's Davis Cup preparations. This collaborative structure leverages their experience as former players.
- The former World No 6 reached the 2014 final as a player but was absent when France won their 10th Davis Cup title in 2017. He is now keen to add to the trophy cabinet in his leadership role.
