FWP seeks information on three elk poached on Sun River Wildlife Area near Augusta
Game wardens investigate illegal shooting of a cow elk and two calves; tips may earn rewards up to $1,000, authorities said.
- On Thursday, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens said three elk were shot and left to waste earlier this week on the Sun River Wildlife Management Area near Augusta.
- A hunter on nearby property reported the dead elk the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 11, and wardens found a cow elk and two elk calves in the Shed Creek drainage, all shot likely days earlier.
- Per Wolfisberg, speaking for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, said the Sun River elk are a unique and historical migratory herd and called shooting and wasting three of them disrespectful to animals, citizens and hunters.
- The wardens said the shootings amount to a crime and asked anyone with information to contact Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens as the case remains under investigation.
