Fully Costed BC Conservative Platform Coming Sunday, Doerkson Promises in Delta
The plan includes a school cellphone ban, expanded meal programs and a $10 million annual playground fund, Doerkson said.
On Oct. 18, Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson announced the 'Thriving Kids Plan' at an event in Delta, promising a fully costed party platform later this afternoon.
Addressing education and family challenges, the party identified issues like student hunger, high extracurricular costs, and classroom distractions, with Doerkson stating that "a child who is hungry, tired, restless, or distracted cannot learn."
The 'Thriving Kids Plan' includes a full cellphone ban in schools, a $500 refundable tax credit for activities, and $10 million annually for playground equipment, alongside expanded meal programs.
Conservative candidates from across the region attended, including Delta South's Ian Paton, Delta North's Monica Mohan, and Lower Mainland representatives Garry Thind, Mandeep Dhaliwal, and Bryan Tepper.
The party's proposals also include specific support for families of children with autism and reviews of existing NDP funding policies, with voters awaiting the full platform release.
