Fugitive mafia boss wanted for murder arrested in Amalfi Coast luxury villa
Police said the Camorra boss was living under a false name as officers seized cash, watches and forged documents.
- Roberto Mazzarella, head of the Naples-based Camorra clan, was arrested Saturday on the Amalfi Coast at a luxury villa in Vietri, ending his year-long evasion of murder charges.
- Mazzarella had been on the run since January 28, 2025, when authorities originally sought his arrest on murder charges. According to Ansa, he was residing at the property under a false name.
- Carabinieri military police executed the arrest as patrol boats positioned themselves offshore. Mazzarella "had been staying in a luxury villa on the Amalfi Coast," the statement said, with his wife and two children present; he did not resist.
- The Naples-based Camorra is famed for involvement in counterfeiting and banknote forgery. Police last month detained 16 people allegedly linked to the Mazzarella clan on charges of cyber fraud.
- Listed as one of Italy's most dangerous fugitives, Mazzarella remains in custody following the successful operation in Vietri. Footage released by the Carabinieri shows heavily armed officers entering the luxury property.
