Fugitive Fraudster Sentenced in $365 Million Medicare Scheme
Kimble used offshore call centers and fake telemedicine to drive false claims, and prosecutors said he personally profited more than $195 million.
Herbert Leon Kimble was sentenced to 20 years in prison for orchestrating a $365 million Medicare fraud scheme involving offshore call centers and fake telemedicine organizations.
Kimble recruited vulnerable Medicare recipients through fraudulent marketing, then sold their personal information and signed doctor orders to DME companies in exchange for illegal payments disguised as business transactions.
The court ordered Kimble to pay Medicare more than $199 million in restitution and forfeit over $195 million in money and property, including a luxury condo at the Shangri-La hotel in the Philippines.
After pleading guilty in 2019, Kimble failed to appear for court proceedings in 2024, prompting his placement on the FBI's Most Wanted Fraudsters list before his capture in the Philippines and return to the United States.
Information for this report was provided by the United States Attorney's Office, District of South Carolina, which also prosecutes related Medicare fraud cases such as Operation Thunder Hole targeting the alleged 'Colombian Lover.
