From Shore Duty to High Seas Leadership: “The Master Chief’s Sea Stories: Volume II” Receives Literary Titan Book Award
Literary Titan praised the journal-based memoir for its candid Navy life account and leadership lessons drawn from 27 years of service.
Retired Navy master chief petty officer Johnny Moye's memoir, The Master Chief's Sea Stories: Volume II Duty Ashore and USS Comte De Grasse, has received the Literary Titan Book Award.
Moye served for 27 years at ship and shore commands, including assignments in Norfolk, Virginia; Thurso, Scotland; and Rota, Spain, earning the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and degrees from Old Dominion University.
Drawing on journals kept during naval service, the memoir offers a candid account of a young sailor's growth into a leader through the pressures of shipboard life and shore duty.
Literary Titan praised Moye's voice as "candid, earthy, funny, sentimental, and often self-critical," noting the journal structure allows readers to witness responsibility accumulating as the sailor confronts difficult decisions.
Now an educational researcher in South Central Virginia, Moye has published more than four dozen articles and previously served as Supervisor of Career and Technical Education for Chesapeake Public Schools.
