From Chainsaw Carving to Children’s Books: Spokane Artist Brings Bear and Owl Friendship to Life
The picture book begins a new series and teaches children lessons about kindness, courage, friendship and belonging.
Spokane artist Aaron Chavez released his new children's book 'Brin and Melly' on Amazon, featuring an unlikely friendship between a grizzly bear named Brin and an owl named Melly.
The book originated from a chainsaw carving Chavez created while working with Canadian International Schools in Guangzhou, China, where he imagined a friendship between the bear and owl characters.
Chavez, who has spent 25 years as an educator and chainsaw carver, said the owl character Melly was inspired by his granddaughter, Melody, combining his background in leadership and art.
Readers can purchase the title in paperback and Kindle editions on Amazon, while Chavez is available for school assemblies, literacy events, and live chainsaw carving demonstrations.
A second adventure is already in development, continuing the journey of Brin, Melly, and new friends as they explore a world filled with mystery and imagination.
