From 10 to 22 years: The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope's mission has just been extended
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope hasn't yet reached its Sun–Earth L2 orbit, and it already has some good news. NASA has announced that the mission has enough fuel to potentially double its mission length. Though initially scheduled for five years of observations, followed by a five-year extended mission, the entire mission could now reach 22 years.
NASA opens Roman space telescope - and it sends first sky image
NASA engineer Start booting Equipment onboard the new “Great” Nancy Grace Roman Telescope, which launched on August 30. Now he is on a three-month flight to the L2 Lagrange point of the Sun-Earth system, about 1.5 million kilometers from our planet. The telescope will receive its first science images in early 2027, following a months-long […]
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is currently en route to its final destination, where it will begin its research in a few months. The observatory's mission was initially planned to last five years. However, it turns out that the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope ultimately has significantly more fuel, enough for 22 years of operation.
