NSW Rocked as Star Hurt in Training Mishap
NSW will monitor the bench playmaker over the next 24 hours and may seek NRL approval to replace him if he cannot recover.
NSW bench playmaker Ethan Strange rolled his ankle at training on Thursday at Cbus Super Stadium and is racing the clock to be fit for Wednesday's State of Origin decider in Brisbane.
Staff are monitoring Strange daily and remain ready to request NRL permission to draft a replacement from outside the 20-man squad, continuing a series of health scares following earlier withdrawals by Mitchell Moses and Casey McLean.
Bulldogs star Matt Burton looms as a likely replacement, though coach Laurie Daley could also consider Tigers utility Adam Douhei or Newcastle's Fletcher Sharpe, as previous options like Isaiya Katoa and Jarome Luai are unavailable due to injury.
After withdrawing from Origin II, which he called "the hardest decision I had to make," Stephen Crichton is available for the decider and feels "the best I've felt as well" ahead of facing Queensland.
With Friday off, medical staff will work to treat Strange's ankle, while team officials confirmed the next 24 hours are crucial to determine if he will be available for the match at Suncorp Stadium.
