How a Vienna woman’s lawsuit could change Austria’s fertility laws

Austria has some of Europe’s strictest rules on egg freezing — but a legal challenge could soon change that.

A Viennese woman turns to the Supreme Court for violating the right to family life.

The reproductive medicine law employs the VfGH. Specifically, the aim is that the collection and freezing of ova are not allowed without medical indication. A woman considers this to be unconstitutional. According to her own information, she currently has no child's wish, but plans to have children at a later stage. Therefore, she wants to take individual ova and freeze them for future medically supported reproduction.
