The low-cost airline Ryanair announced that it would restrict its operations in Greece, closing the Thessaloniki base in winter season 2026 and reducing its activity at Athens airport.
Capacity is also being reduced at Athens Airport for the upcoming winter, resulting in a total loss of 700,000 seats and 12 routes across Greece.
Ryanair will close its base at Thessaloniki Airport in Greece from the winter schedule and reduce the number of flights to and from the city after the airport's operator Fraport Greece significantly increased fees, the Irish discount airline's commercial director said.
The decision could negatively affect tourism and jobs in Greece.
