Reindustrialization slows down in France, 266 factory openings and extensions in 2024

If Bercy prefers to communicate on an indicator that integrates site extensions and remains positive, the State Industrial Barometer announces for the first time a negative balance since its creation in 2022. The green industry sector has experienced a very positive year, unlike that of the automobile.

While there were 344 factory openings or extensions in 2023, Bercy counted only 266 in 2024. Recognizing that the dynamics are fluctuating, the Ministry of Economy does not anticipate improvement in 2025.

The country experienced a "net deterioration" of its economic activity in 2024, and even a "drop-off" from the second half of the year, according to the annual barometer published by Trendeo on 11 March.
