The French government has linked the Russian military intelligence service (GRU) to a series of cyberattacks against French interests in recent years, including actions targeting the 2024 Paris Olympics.

According to the French Foreign Minister, the hacker group APT28 is behind years of cyber attacks in France, including on President Macron's campaign team.

On Tuesday 29 April, the Quai d'Orsay condemned "stabilising" operations against French companies and ministries led by Russian military intelligence, to which it attributed the piracy of TV5Monde and the "MacronLeaks". A first of its kind, which also aims to signify the French capabilities to trace the pirates of the Kremlin.
