FPL proposes lower 2027 rate
The proposal includes a $3.48 hurricane recovery surcharge, but FPL says lower fuel costs and efficiency gains would keep bills below prior projections.
- On Friday, Florida Power & Light asked state regulators to set the average monthly residential bill at $141.87 for 2027, a proposal subject to approval by the Florida Public Service Commission .
- FPL President and CEO Scott Bores attributed the rate to smart investments and lower natural gas costs, which help offset a temporary $3.48 monthly surcharge for Hurricane Isaias recovery.
- The requested $141.87 is $1.18 less than the rate originally projected for January 2027 under the 2025 settlement; if approved, the Isaias surcharge would apply throughout 2027.
- Deploying about 17,000 workers after Isaias, the company restored service within four days while smart-grid technology prevented approximately 138,000 outages and underground lines performed about 14 times better than overhead lines.
- Serving nearly 6.13 million homes and businesses across 41 counties, FPL's rate decision will impact millions of Florida consumers once the PSC finalizes the proposal.
