4 dead in fiery highway crash in New York City suburb
A fiery two-vehicle crash killed four people Wednesday evening on the Taconic State Parkway near New Castle, New York.
The crash occurred after a southbound Sprinter van crossed the center median into northbound lanes and hit a Honda sedan.
The impact overturned and ignited the van, killing three van passengers at the scene while the Honda driver later died in hospital.
Police closed the northbound Taconic near mile marker 9.2 for several hours, urging drivers to avoid the area and use detours like Route 100 due to heavy congestion.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash and encourage anyone with relevant information or who witnessed the incident to reach out to the state police by calling 677-7300.
