An internal evaluation of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) shows an incredible number: 80.5 percent of North African asylum seekers were accused of a criminal offence in 2024. Few people go to prison – even an expulsion is difficult.
According to an internal SEM evaluation, around 80.5% of asylum seekers from the Maghreb countries were accused of a criminal offence in 2024. The federal government now wants to tighten up coercive measures and speed up repatriation.
