The residents of the Leov region were assured that water was available and would continue to be available, but that it was not rational and could not be used in large quantities, as reported by the mayor of Leova Alexandra Boujorian, in conjunction with the Ministry of the Environment, on the technical measures that were being taken for the continuous operation of the Prute water abstraction.
An additional pump, with a higher capacity, will be installed at the water catchment station in the Prut river in Leova municipality, to ensure the need for water under the conditions of lowering the river level. Today, temporary pipes and a pump have been installed at the station to allow water catchment at a lower level, reports MOLDPRES.
In order to keep the catchment area of Leova in operation, the authorities began intervention work after the water level in the Prut river reached the minimum limit necessary for the operation of the station.

The Prut River is facing a drastic drop in flow, which has fallen from about 24 to 14 cubic metres per second. This creates major risks for the water supply of 11 localities in the south of the country, affecting approximately 18,000 people in the Leova district, including the cities of Leova and Jargara.
