Forza Horizon and Need for Speed Meet in Maverick Games’ Debut Driving Project
Maverick Games, led by FH5 Creative Director Mike Brown, announced Clutch, a cinematic open-world action-driving title set in the French Riviera. The game centers on two sibling racing prodigies competing in the R1K, a historic racing series.
Building on expertise from Forza Horizon, Maverick Games aims to push the genre into a new era through open-world sandbox innovation. Brown stated the team wants to deliver a "generational leap" on the staples of why fans love driving games.
The title features "PvPvE" mechanics where players race each other while occasionally uniting against common foes. Players will customize real-life cars with deep options, from exhaust tips to underglow, within the historic R1K championship spanning 100 years.
Players navigate the intersection of a prestigious motorsports championship and the underground Midnight Collective, where gameplay includes police chases and gadgets like nitrous and grappling hooks. The dynamic world features handcrafted and spontaneous missions.
Maverick is targeting a spring 2027 release for PlayStation and Xbox Series, with additional details arriving on June 5 during Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Showcase. The announcement positions Clutch as a narrative-focused alternative in the open-world racing space.
