Pat Etcheberry, a native of Chili, was a Southeastern Conference champion in the javelin in 1966 at Kentucky and then was an assistant track coach at UK from 1967-79 and head coach from 1979-84. However, he also was the strength and conditioning coach for all UK teams from 1973-89 where his innovative methods helped numerous UK athletes and was a major reason for his induction into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame.
