Former San Francisco PD Sergeant Kills Wife, Daughter in Double Murder-Suicide, Sources Say
Authorities say a retired sergeant shot his estranged wife and their daughter before killing himself, and investigators have found no ongoing threat.
On Sunday, the Marin County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into a murder-suicide that left three people dead in a residence in Strawberry, an unincorporated community near Mill Valley, California.
Sources identified the suspect as retired San Francisco Police Sergeant Kevin Mannix, 68, who allegedly killed his estranged wife, former SFPD Deputy Chief Ann Mannix, 65, and their 24-year-old daughter, Katie.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at 5:03 p.m. on Sunday, with a caller managing to escape before law enforcement secured the perimeter and entered the residence.
Ann Mannix was remembered by the San Francisco Police Officers Association as a trailblazer who became the first woman to join and lead the department's SWAT team, rising to command Field Operations.
Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public, while spokesperson Miguel Almaguer noted the active investigation and referred those in need to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
