On Friday, the Maricopa County Medical Examiner revealed that former Arizona Cardinals defensive end Josh Mauro died from "acute combined fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol intoxication," classifying the death as accidental.
Mauro, a 35-year-old former NFL defensive end who played college football at Stanford, appeared in 80 total games across eight seasons with the Cardinals, New York Giants, and Oakland Raiders.
During his eight-year career, Mauro started 40 games and recorded five career sacks; his most productive season came in 2016 with the Cardinals when he recorded 32 tackles in 15 games.
Expressing heartbreak, the Cardinals issued a statement on April 28 regarding Mauro's passing, extending deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him.
