Former Mizzou star Mitchell's transfer to Kentucky threatened by SEC rules
Mark Mitchell can still play for Kentucky if he never signed an NBA contract, the SEC said, despite its new roster restrictions.
Mark Mitchell's transfer to Kentucky faces potential scrutiny following the Southeastern Conference's reaffirmation of rules prohibiting professional athletes from returning to college basketball.
On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference enforced a new policy barring athletes who signed professional contracts or entered the NBA Draft from competing in college sports.
An SEC spokesperson clarified that players participating in the NBA Summer League remain eligible if they "never signed any type of NBA contract, including an Exhibit 10 or Two-Way contract."
Mitchell remains eligible for Kentucky because he never signed an E-10 contract with an NBA team, despite playing in the Summer League.
Mitchell's addition as a difference-maker positions the Wildcats as potential National Championship contenders for the 2026-27 season, strengthening Kentucky's roster.
