Former graduate assistant at Wichita State convicted of rape

Former Wichita State student and graduate assistant MD Barkat Mia was convicted of rape on Monday.  Mia was found guilty on one count of rape and not guilty of two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy.  He was arrested in November 2024 at McKinley Hall by Sedgwick County law enforcement for a reported sexual assault.  Mia’s sentencing will be held on Oct. 2.
