Rolland Courbis, aged 72, was a celebrated coach and RMC commentator known for his passionate style and led Marseille to the 1999 UEFA Cup final, RMC said.

- A former defender, Rolland Courbis won two French league titles and a French Cup with AS Monaco and coached Bordeaux, Montpellier, Rennes, AC Ajaccio and led Olympique de Marseille to the 1999 UEFA Cup final.
- RMC paid tribute saying his passion came through in his emblematic Marseille accent and close rapport with listeners, while Didier Deschamps said that with his passing `a fine connoisseur of football and its inner workings, but also of the game itself`.
- He had survived a violent 1996 attack that killed a club president and hit him with a bullet, and Courbis also faced legal cases, casino gambling, and living with an Italian countess.
