Former Deputy Arrested for Improperly Using Surveillance Camera System

A former Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested Aug. 31 on charges related to him improperly accessing license plate reader (Flock) data over an eight-month period, according to ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles. On August 14, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department contacted the Indiana State Police after an internal audit of their department’s Flock camera access revealed the improper use of the system by Deputy Skylar Nicholas Thompson. Skylar Nicholas Thompson The audit revealed that Thompson, 31, of Brownstown allegedly searched the same registration plate number over 2,000 times between December 2025 and August 2026 through his Flock account access.  Detectives with the Indiana State Police-Sellersburg Post immediately began an investigation into the allegations.  The findings of the investigation were then presented to the Jackson County Prosecutor Lynsey Fleetwood. As a result, Thompson was charged with a felony count of official misconduct and a misdemeanor  count of fraud. He was booked in to the Jackson County Jail at 6:49 p.m. The probable cause affidavit further charges that Thompson listed “City Planning/Traffic Analysis” as the justification for each search despite having never been assigned duties involving city planning or traffic pattern analysis. Prior to working as a deputy in Jackson County, Thompson was a Scott County Sheriff’s deputy. Thompson is no longer employed with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
