Disgraced ex-SNP council leader Jordan Linden to launch bid to overturn conviction and sentence
His lawyers have filed an appeal after he was jailed for 18 months and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
The Appeal Court in Edinburgh confirmed on Monday that Jordan Linden, 30-year-old former North Lanarkshire Council leader, lodged an 'intention to appeal' against his conviction and 18-month sentence.
Sheriff Christopher Shead sentenced Linden on May 6 at Falkirk Sheriff Court to 18 months in prison and placed him on the sex offenders register for 10 years after rejecting defence arguments from his lawyer David Moggach KC.
Court testimony revealed victims, all boys or young men aged 14 to 18, experienced 'relentless' touching and late-night calls 'panting,' with one victim aged 18 describing Linden as 'very handsy' at a Dundee Pride event in 2019.
Sheriff Shead stated 'custody is the only appropriate disposal,' while First Minister John Swinney apologised to victims and ordered an independent review of the SNP's complaints process after some witnesses claimed complaints were ignored.
Linden's rapid political ascent within the SNP unraveled when he rose from councillor in 2017 to North Lanarkshire Council leader in May 2022, resigning two months later as allegations emerged, with appellate arguments due by early July.
