Former Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki Dies Aged 72
Koome said the former chief legal adviser was a distinguished jurist whose reforms improved court efficiency and judicial training.
On Tuesday, Chief Justice Martha Koome confirmed the death of former Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki, aged 72, paying tribute to his distinguished judicial and public service.
Kariuki served as President of the Court of Appeal from 2013 to 2018, championing reforms to improve court efficiency and accessibility during his judicial tenure.
As founding Director of the Judicial Training Institute, Kariuki established structured foundations for judicial education and professional development that evolved into the Kenya Judiciary Academy.
Following his judicial career, Kariuki served as the country's chief legal adviser under former President Uhuru Kenyatta from 2018 to 2022 after Kenyatta's nomination.
Born in Kiambu County in 1954 to Anglican Church Bishop Obadiah Kariuki, he devoted his life to law and public service. "May Almighty God grant his family strength and consolation, and may his soul rest in eternal peace," Koome said.
