Atlanta Braves manager and Hall of Famer Bobby Cox dies at 84
The Hall of Fame manager led Atlanta to 14 straight division titles and its 1995 World Series championship, the team said.
The Atlanta Braves confirmed the death of legendary manager Bobby Cox at age 84. The team said, "Bobby was the best manager to ever wear a Braves uniform."
After managing the Toronto Blue Jays to 99 wins and their first postseason berth in 1985, Cox returned to Atlanta as general manager. He eventually took over the dugout, sparking a turnaround that ignited nearly two decades of dominance.
The Braves secured 14 consecutive division titles from 1991 to 2005, five National League pennants, and a World Series championship in 1995. Cox finished with 2,504 victories, the fourth-highest total in baseball history.
Following his 2010 retirement from the Braves, Cox was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014. He was honored alongside two of his great starting pitchers, Greg Maddux and Tommy Glavine.
